Capital Starships

Links to the New Imperial Federation can be found under any entry in which information from that site was used.

Rules for gaining capital ships:
A space facility is required to purchase and house 1 capital ship. The facilities include: industrial complex, asteroid hangar 1 capital ship replaces 1 squadron, luxury resort station, capital ship factory, and any space colony 1/2/3. Then the person must RP in a moderated thread. The RP should be more than just a shopping post ie I go there buy a dock and I go there and buy a ship. There has to be a good quality and believable role-play to acquire a capital ship.

Nebulon-B Frigate

22180 Credits

Medium starship. The Kuat Drive Yards designed the EF76-B Escort Frigate to protect important Imperial convoys from Alliance raiders. This frigate was introduced when several highly-ranked imperial officers defected and numerous frigates ended up in the growing Alliance fleet. The Alliance studied the Nebulon-B specs and soon modified the frigate, pushing the hardware to its limits. It then became the widely used EF76-B Nebulon-B class Frigate, used in covert raids on convoys, and refitted into command, communications and medical craft. At 194 million standard credits, the escort frigate costs less than one twentieth to produce than the Imperial Star Destroyer, but is still equipped with heavy firepower and up to two starfighter squadrons (24 ships), typically one X-Wing or A-Wing squadron, and an Y-Wing squadron. Its cargo modules can carry a total of 6,000 metric tons. In an atmosphere, the unwieldy craft can nonetheless attain a speed of 800 kilometers per hour. The ship has enough fuel and consumable life support supplies for two years of operation before restocking.

The Nebulon-B?s spaceframe is divided into three basic sections. In the fore is the ship?s primary hull, which contains the bulk of the ship?s habitable volume. This structure has a very tall vertical profile, and its bow-end is lined with numerous storage and equipment modules. The officer and crew quarters are contained in forward facing cylindrical outcroppings. Beneath those is the main bridge, situated above the emergency batteries and sensor generators. The front spar?s bottom cluster is dominated by the extremely efficient and effective forward sensor module (a Fabritech ANs 9.5w wide range array) and primary laser cannons. One of the key components of the escort frigate is the massive deep-space, multi-frequency antenna that extends from its forward hull. This device makes escort frigates more than adequate command bases. The frigate?s starfighter hangar bays are contained in this module. A port-side hangar entrance allows for rapid deployment of fighters. In converted medical craft, this bay has been modified into a primary surgery suite. The primary hull tapers down into an engineering boom, a thin cylindrical structure that connects it to the last section, the aft propulsion module. The boom features two docking tubes for transport craft too large to fit into the hangar.

Light starship. Because the original Corvette lacked enough firepower, CEC built this enhanced version with warhead launchers and more turbolaser cannons. This Corvette was modified to incorporate solar collectors and stabilizers into the hull and is the reason to why this version has a long, pod-like shape instead of the angular shape of the original design.

Marauder Corvette

37080 Credits

Light combat cruiser. Not powerful enough to engage heavy Imperial Navy ships, but well-suited for system patrols and smuggling interdiction efforts. Capable of carrying an entire squadron of IRD starfighters. The Marauder-class quickly became one of RSS most recent successes, although the ship eventually found its way into the hands of smuggler and pirates. The Marauder Corvette is sometimes, perhaps more correctly, called Marauder Cruiser.

Carrack Cruiser

24100 Credits

Light starship. Commonly used to patrol quiet sectors. Very fast and it can carry up to four TIE Fighters on an external rack. With its 350 metres, the Carrack Cruiser is larger than a Lancer-class ship but smaller than a Dreadnaught. It was built to counteract the effectiveness of the Corellian Corvette, for the Empire could not obtain many of those. They are the fastest Imperial capital ships, but it was lightly armored near its power generators, which posed a problem in battle.

Loronar Strike Cruiser

38280 Credits

Light starship with unique modular design. Can carry a single starfighter squadron. Specialized versions exist for troop transport and planetary assaults. Loronar's Strike-class "Cruisers" (actually only a frigate-sized starship) were often used by the Empire when larger vessels were unnecessary or unavailable. Two Strike-class ships are essentially equivalent to a VSD, in both size and armament. In addition, due to the modular design of the STRKC, these ships can be easily mass-produced, and at a minimal cost.

Light starship. The Lancer-class was proposed by Admiral Drez following the Battle of Yavin. KDY built a limited number of them as test prototypes, but found that they were very expensive to build. The Lancer's primary mission was to screen off enemy starfighters early in an engagement, paving the way for large ship-to-ship combat which Imperator-class Star Destroyers were more than capable of winning. Although armed with 20 Quad Laser cannons, it is the weakest of all frigates.

Dreadnaught

48240 Credits

Developed before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Dreadnaught heavy cruisers are among the oldest vessels in active service in the Imperial Navy. Though outdated, the Dreadnaughts continued to see use due to simple economics: they were readily available and effective cruisers, if not the most efficient and advanced models.

The Dreadnaught is plagued by a number of design flaws that prevented it from becoming a preeminent ship of the line. Inefficient power generators resulted in slow sublight and hyperdrive performance, weak shielding, reduced firepower and frequent surges within the computer systems.

Perhaps the Dreadnaught's biggest drawback is how crew-intensive the ships are. Standard operating procedure recommends an optimum crew that numbers over 16,000 personnel. The consumable supplies required to maintain that crew took up enormous cargo space. A modification of the ship's hyperdrive that increased its performance to class two allowed for more frequent victualing stops, and some of that cargo space was converted for hangar use. In the Empire, a standard Dreadnaught carried a squadron of TIE fighters. The Imperials employed Dreadnaughts to maintain a presence in the Outer Rim Territories, as convoy escort vessels and ensuring dominance over primitive worlds.

Victory Class Star Destroyer

92800 Credits

Heavy starship. Originally designed during the Clone Wars, these heavily armed capital ships carry two TIE Fighter squadrons. One of the first ships with a dagger-like appearance, the VSD could easily engage smaller or comparable ships and emerge victorious (hence the name). In addition, ships of this class are able to enter planetary atmospheres and battle ships there or bombard the surface of a planet. However, Victory-class ships are very slow, and most smaller ships can easily outrun it.

Imperator Class Star Destroyer

104380 Credits

Heavy starship. It is almost twice as big as a Victory-class with more than double the combat power. It carries six squadrons of TIE Fighters and a full stormtrooper division. The Imperator-class Star Destroyer was one of the most common Imperial capital ship during the reign of the Emperor. It was designed to be a multipurpose vessel, so that it could function as either a flagship or carrier in small fleets and battle groups, and as a destroyer or support ship in larger ones. Thus, more of this type of ship were built than most others. ISDs could be found in every Imperial-controlled sector of the galaxy, and enforced the Empire's rule nearly everywhere. In the Outer Rim territories, these ships were often the largest available, and were effective in controlling uprisings and other events on rebellious planets. In the Core regions, the destroyers were more numerous, and hundreds could be found in fleets and armadas among larger cruisers and battleships. The ISDs themselves are triangular, dagger-shaped ships that use many design elements from the earlier Victory-class Star Destroyer. The ship is dominated by a large, hexagonal command tower that contains the bridge and other command-related areas. In addition, two sensor globes and a communications relay sit on top of the tower. The primary docking bay is approximately 185 meters by 160 meters; the secondary bay, forward of the main one, is 37 by 56 meters. According to LucasFilm, the Star Destroyers seen in the movies are "Imperator-class" ships. "Imperial-class Star Destroyer" is merely a colloquial Alliance/New Republic term for many different Star Destroyer designs.

Heavy starship. When the Mon Calamari joined the Alliance, they brought with them a number of their latest ships, the MC80s. These vessels were originally designed to be explorer and colonization vessels, but were converted to warships with the addition of starfighter hangars and various weapons. MC80s are considered to be comparable to ISDs, due to their size and durability (MC80s have backup shields in addition to standard shield generators). Their starfighter complement is three squadrons and these starships form the backbone of the Rebel Alliance fleet.

MC-90

107590 Credits

This was the first truly military starship designed by the Mon Calamari. They were more modular than the MC80-series, designed to be more consistent with other, non-MC-class starships. The ship's displays were given multiple wavelength settings so that other species could read them. The MC90 had an improved drive system, increased shielding, and better maneuverability. The power generators were upgraded, and interior cargo space was expanded for carrying more starfighters. The Defiance was the first MC90 to see action, during the first Battle of Calamari. These 1,255-meter ships were manned by 5,860 crewmen and 605 gunners, and could transport up to 1,700 troops. They were armed with 75 turbolaser batteries, 30 ion cannon batteries, 8 tractor beam projectors, and 6 proton torpedo/missile tubes.

Republic Class Star Destroyer

90500 Credits

This battle ship was a smaller version of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, and was designed for use by the New Republic. It first saw duty during the latter stages of the Black Fleet Crisis and the battle against the Yevetha, although production was limited to a few ships. The Republic-class was designed to be the follow-up to the Victory-class destroyer, and was developed by Walex Blissex himself. They were designed to be cost-efficient replacements for the Imperial-class destroyer - two Republics could be manufactured for the cost of one Imperial, with twenty percent of the crew complement and twenty percent more firepower than the Imperial-I class destroyer. The Republic-class ship measured 1,250 meters in length, and was crewed by 8,168 crewers with 260 gunners and up to 3,200 troops. They were armed with 40 heavy turbolaser batteries, 40 heavy turbolaser cannons, 20 ion cannons, and 10 tractor beam projectors. It also transported a full wing of starfighters.

Endurance Class Fleet Carrier

61000 Credits

One of several new warship designs created during the early years of the New Republic, the Endurance-class fleet carrier was one of the new classes approved for use by the Navy. Like other starships of the new class, the Endurance-class was based on another design which had already been proved, the Nebula-class destroyer. It measured 1,040 meters in length, and was armed with 12 turbolaser cannons, 20 laser cannons, 8 ion cannons, and 4 tractor beam projectors. The Endurance-class ship required a crew of 6,795, with 76 gunners and room for 1,600 troops. The Endurance-class Carrier was designed to be a primary source of support for a battle fleet, and could easily act as a command ship to a small fleet. The carrier maintained a pair of starfighter wings, one for close assault and one for long-range superiority.

After the destruction of the first Death Star, Darth Vader ordered the construction of the first of a new class of vessels. Designed by Lira Wessex, designer of the Imperator-class Star Destroyer, the Executor-class Star Destroyer was born. The first of this line, the Executor, was an amazing feat. At 8 kilometers long, the Executor was five times the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer. The Executor was also five times as powerful, with 1,000 weapon emplancements. The huge vessel had 12 squadrons (two wings) of TIE fighters, plus many ground assault troops. Three other Executor-class ships were made before the Battle of Hoth, though many more were made between then and Endor. Amazingly, by the time Grand Admiral Thrawn took command of the Empire, there were no longer any Super Star Destroyers in Imperial hands. More were made after Thrawn's death, each more advanced than the originals. But the Executor-class Star Destroyer remained the ultimate ship in the galaxy.

The Super Star Destroyer was an 8 km long behemoth. It could take on whole fleets by itself. Nothing the Rebels had could compete with the mighty craft. Though supposedly the Rebels did capture one Super from the Empire, they scrapped it since they believed that many smaller ships were better than one giant vessel. The Super Star Destroyer does have the downside of being slow and combersome. Despite the vast amount of weaponry aboard the ship, it often served the role of command ship, guiding huge fleets of vessels.

The Super Star Destroyer design has been slightly altered through the years. The Terror had a cloaking device. The Night Hammer had black stealth armor, as well as several additional squadrons of TIE fighters. In fact, all late-production Supers had a third shield generator tower along their centerline. Also, the Sovereign- and Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyers  were greatly improved from the original Super-class design.

Hapan Battle Dragon

59325 Credits

The Hapes Cluster is very wealty and has stayed outside of galactic business for a long time, remaining largely isolationistic. As a result, they have developed certain unusual technologies and maintains a well-equipped, well organized navy. The Battle Dragon is the signature Hapan ship. It does not have a large amount of arms for its size, so Battle Dragons must work in concert to bring down larger enemy ships. Their turbolasers have a refire deficiency, only able to fire with a RoF 1/3rd that of comparable standard weapons. Since Hapan ships are not slower or have weaker shields than the galactic norm, this is almost certainly the result of poor cryocooling technology rather than weaker powerplants. To compensate for the lower rate of fire, Battle Dragons have a unique rail system for their turbolasers, allowing a fired weapon to be rotated away to put a fresh one on the target. This allows a Battle Dragon to produce an impressive stream of continuous fire on any single target (estimated with between 4-5 times the normal ROF for heavy turbolasers), but they are unable to engage more than four targets at once and with no more than 10 turbolasers at any one target. Also, elite starfighter pilots can fly into the open structure of the ship to strafe while the Dragon is unable to counterfire. For these reasons, the Dragons usually operates in groups, often in concert with Nova-class Cruisers. The Hapans also use another unique weapon, the pulsemass mine. It was developed from Imperial gravity well generators, deploys into hyperspace and simulates a massive object in realspace in a similar fashion to the imperial weapon, which autotriggers the saftey shutdown of hyperdrives, rendering nearby ships unable to enter or stay in hpyerspace. A shortcoming of the pulsemass mine is that it remains effective for only about two minutes. The Hapan navy consists at all time of 63 Battle Dragons, one for each major world in the Hapan Cluster. They normally carry 2 squadrons of My'til fighters and 1 squadron of Hetrinar Bombers, but after the Hapan's alliance with the New Republic and its comeback on the galactic scene, some carries X-Wings.

As mentioned - Battle Dragons are susceptible to multiple vector attacks, having difficulty to track two or three targets at once, four being the limit. They are also quite slow, and fighters could enter the superstructure and fire warheads at it without retaliation. But don't underestimate the Battle Dragon - it is a heavy cruiser for good reasons.

Hapes Nova Class Cruiser

36040 Credits

Usually serving as lead ships for task forces or support vessels for Battle Dragons, Hapes Nova-class ships have a more traditional elongated shape and a retractable circular armor panel that protects the bridge during combat. -Source: Cracken's Threat Dossier

The Nova-class Battle Cruiser is similar in appearance to the Nebulon-B2 Escort Frigate.

Nova-class Cruisers are designed to complement and support Hapan Battle Dragons. The design is less than a decade old and incorporates a number of innovations, many of them stolen from Imperial corporations such as Kuat Drive Yards and SoroSuub. Newer Nova Cruises even have backup shield generators, rumoured to be stolen from Mon Calamari Shipyards. The result is a cruiser that is exceptionally swift at both sublight and hyper-lightspeeds, more than capable of dealing with pirates and easily a match for modern warships. Like Battle Dragons, it has tremendous capacity in a small package. It normally carries 2 Miy'til fighter squadrons, and 6 Hetrinar Assault Bombers. A unique design consisting of two folding shield plates moves forward to give extra protection on the sides of the bridge during battle.

Quasar Fire Class Bulk Cruiser

21650 Credits

This SoroSuub cruiser-carrier was 340 meters in length, and had a flat, triangular shape. The point of the triangle held the bridge and command section. A long hull brace fanned out behind the bridge, widening into the rear section of the ship. This section, which formed the base of the triangle, was designed to house four squadrons of starfighters (forty-eight in all). The rear section was deep enough to allow incoming ships to land, and was open to space. Only a magnetic field separated the flight deck from space when the ship wasn't at battle stations. The Quasar Fire normally had a crew of 250, more than half of which were starfighter mechanics. It was armed with only a pair of heavy turbolasers, as its mission profile was to deliver its payload of starfighters into the battle then retreat from any engagements.

Star Galleon

22150 Credits

Built by the Kuat Drive Yards in an effort to help transport cargo and defend it at the same time, the Star Galleon is a 300-meter military cargo ship. It is capable of dropping its cargo section, which can fly on its own. It is fairly well-armed, boasting 10 turbolaser batteries and concussion missile launchers, and therefore does not require an escort. The interior of the ship is also equipped with anti-intrusion defenses. The cargo section is equipped with a small hyperdrive that can be activated by the main ship's navcom unit in case of emergency. The Star Galleon is manned by a crew of 150, with room for up to 300 troops.

CC-7700

15870 Credits

This older frigate is, in many respects, the predecessor to the Corellian Gunship. The ship is lightly armed, but the CC-7700 was not meant to be a battle ship. Instead, it is designed to be a platform for gravity well projectors with a mission profile similar to the Imperial Interdictor cruiser. Gravity well projectors simulate the mass of planetary bodies, which causes the built-in saftey to disable hyperdrives in nearby ships. This effectively prevents ships from entering hyperspace and leave the area. Although it is possible to circumvent the safeties, this takes some time and increases the risk of a disastrous misjump. The safest way to escape an interdictor is to move out of the area of the gravity well before jumping.

Enforcer Class Cruiser

60050 Credits

The Enforcer is built on the same hull as the Immobilizer-418, but without the structural weakness of gravity well projectors, while instead making room for a hangar. It was designed to be a fast flanking and escort vessel, particularly to work in conjunction with its sister class, the Immobilizer-418, in anti-pirate task forces in the outer reaches of the galaxy. The Enforcer is very capable of attacking and defeating small frigates and corvettes, highly maneuverable and very well armed for its size, making for a light cruiser with excellent performance.

Battle Horn Class Cruiser

35880 Credits

The Battle Horn class is a standard modification of the Old Republic sector defence fleet bulk cruisers. They are rugged and reliable with reasonable shielding. They remain in large numbers in the outer rim, both in the Imperial Navy, Republic systems and pirate organizations. Slow and bulky, armed with lasers only, they pose little threat other than as close support anti-fighter vessels.

Vibre Class Assault Cruiser

11520 Credits

Developed and manufactured by Silvuit Corporation, this 100-meter long craft bristled with weapons. It found widespread usage among Imperial fleets which survived the Battle of Endor, as the remnants of the Empire began raiding New Republic convoys for supplies. Vibre-class cruisers were plated with matte-black armor, with a layer of stealth coating bonded to it. A triangular, scarab-shaped craft, it was armed with four laser cannons, a pair of tractor beam projectors, and four ion cannons. The shape of the ship was dictated by its mission profile. It could latch onto larger capital ships with its tractor beams, and use cutting lasers to open the other ship's hull. A squadron of zero-G spacetroopers was disgorged into the larger ship, which would then take control of it. The ship required a crew of thirty to operate, along with 15 gunners. It could transport up to sixty troops and 500 metric tons of cargo.
